Apple's new campus will run on 100% renewable energy.

Apple says it wants to use 100% renewable energy

The company unveiled a new environmental section of its website. Apple CEO Tim Cook narrated a video about the comany's latest green efforts. The company's data centers will use a variety of alternative energy sources.

In honor of Earth Day, Apple announced that it is offering free recycling for all of it products and that it intends to run all of its stores, offices and data centers with renewable energy. It will give out gift cards if consumers bring back products in good enough shape to be refurbished and resold.

AP Technology Reporter Michael Liedtke wrote:

All four of Apple’s data centers, which are located in North Carolina, Oregon, Nevada and California, already rely entirely on renewable energy, the company said. The electricity comes from a variety of alternative sources, including biogas, as well as wind, solar and hydro power.

The article noted that when completed in 2016, the company 2.8 million square foot headquarters will be powered entireluy by renewable energy.
