Special to CONTRACTOR
CROMWELL, CONN. — Scores of plumbing and heating contractors and wholesalers crammed into a hotel meeting room here March 10 to see the rollout of Burnham Hydronics’ Traveling Show premier party. Burnham had held the first Premier Party in Boston the day before and planned a third showing in April in Denver.
The Traveling Show is a series of large, standup display boards with each one dedicated to a Burnham product, such as residential boilers, commercial boilers, the firm’s oil and steam boiler lines, radiation or radiant floor heating, the firm’s plants and customer service capabilities.
A number of the boards emphasize that Burnham casts its own heat exchangers in its own Lancaster, Pa., foundry. Burnham National Sales Manager Dan Kelbaugh said the made-in-the-U.S.A. heat exchangers are a huge sales advantage.
The whole display can be set up or torn down in about two hours and fits neatly into a dedicated truck.
The Traveling Show has been developed as a sales tool for wholesalers to create an event to draw in contractors for an evening of inform them about Burnham’s product and try to generate some sales for the line. Burnham is also throwing in some sales premiums, such as giving away a tool bag with every purchase of a residential boiler in April and May.
The attendees generally applauded the concept with contractors saying the event was worthwhile and wholesalers indicating that they would be interested in sponsoring a Traveling Show. A Burnham representative said the company could realistically get the truck and displays to about 25 wholesaler events per year.
