Would you pay $89 for a zip-up hoodie and then wait five months to get it? This is really happening now. A San Francisco startup called American Giant Inc. is making what Slate.com called the greatest hoodie ever made and sales exploded. American Giant makes hoodies, sweatpants and T-shirts from cotton grown and milled in the southeastern U.S. and sews in factories in Los Angeles and Brisbane, California, and in rural North Carolina outside of Raleigh. It can’t keep up with the demand.

So why are people willing to pay a lot of money for what might be considered an ordinary article of clothing and then wait months to get it? Because it’s an American-made product that is worth it. That’s what we’re celebrating in our annual Made in America issue. Well-designed, well-made products manufactured in American factories by American workers for American contractors.
