The Mechanical Contractors Association of Wisconsin has announced the recipients of its 2004 "MCAW Meritorious Service Award." They are: Bill Bassett, Bassett Mechanical of Kaukauna, and Andy Meier, Hydro-Flo Co. of Brookfield. They were chosen for their dedication to the advancement of the mechanical contracting industry.

Brian A. Rener, PE, has been named vice president and chief electrical engineer of the mechanical/electrical/ plumbing engineering unit of A. Epstein and Sons International, Chicago. Rener brings more than 15 years experience to the post.

Donald Romano, president of Heritage Mandell Mechanical Services in Deer Park, N.Y., was recognized with the Distinguished Legislative Service Award at the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractor's National Association's recent annual legislative dinner. Mandell Mechanical is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group.

Illingworth Corp., a leading mechanical services contractor in the Milwaukee, Wisc. Region, has named Dan Pfeifer as its new president. Former president John Illingworth will remain and assume the role of chief executive officer. Pfeifer started his career with the company in 1977 as a sheet metal apprentice, and was most recently named vice president of HVAC operations in 2002. Illingworth is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group.

Nine members of the Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors Association of Northern Illinois have won its "Commitment to a Safe Workplace" Award for 2003. The award recognizes improvements in safety made by the contractors over the last three years in at least four out of six categories, such as lost workdays and workers' compensation resolutions. Two three-time winners are: Abbot Industries, Bensenville, and Roughneck Concrete Drilling and Sawing, Morton Grove. Two contractors have won the award the last two years: Chicago Backflow, Alsip, and Mechanical Inc., Freeport. Other winners for 2003 are: AMS Mechanical services, Burr Ridge; Franks Mechanical Contractors, Elk Grove Village; J.L. Wagner Plumbing & Piping, St. Charles; Paul Buddy Plumbing & Heating, Aurora; and Professional Plumbing, Barrington.

J.F. Ahern Co. has announced the appointment of Robert Pavlock as director of sales for the company's pipe fabrication division. He brings nearly 20 years of experience to the position, most recently as regional sales manager for Pipe Supports USA of Houston, Texas.

Excellence Alliance is pleased to announce Laurence Scharff as the new vice president of sales and marketing. Laurence has spent the last 10 years at ClimateMaster Inc., most recently as a regional manager for their commercial, residential, and OEM programs for the central and Southern regions.

Comfort Systems USA has announced the promotion of senior vice president Thomas N. Tanner, 55, to chief operating officer. Prior to his appointment, Tanner served as senior vice president --operations, vice president - East region, and East region controller.

Manufacturers

Viega North America, a manufacturer of systems for radiant floor heating, snow and ice melting and plumbing, has appointed David Garlow to vice president of sales. He was formerly Northeast regional manager for the company.

Viega North America has also recognized three employees for 10 or more years of service with the company: Bob Oates, assembly specialist, Carol Gilson, operations manager, and Eamon Tighe, manager of engineering services.

Elkay Manufacturing announced that John E. Heilstedt, executive vice president/sales and marketing, Elkay division, has retired from the company. Heilstedt joined the company in 1992 as vice president/sales and marketing, Elkay division. Six new appointments have been announced to develop the company's growth strategies: Mark Lawson has been promoted to vice president and general manager of sink products and accessories. Jack Krecek has been promoted to vice president and general manager of water cooler products. Tom Samanic has been promoted to general manager of CIS products and will oversee the company's Custom, Institution and Scullery line. Bill Blaine, formerly vice president of sales was promoted to senior-vice president of sales and will continue to lead the division's sales efforts in wholesale, specification, commercial/ industrial and retail channels.

Weil McLain has announced the promotion of Pam Pawlik to the position of advertising and publishing manager. She has been a quality engineer with the company since 2002.

Jerry G. Ryder, In-Sink-Erator president, recently received the HAIL Award from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. The award recognizes individuals for service and leadership to the home appliance industry. Ryder has served two terms as treasurer for AHAM. Dan King recently joined In-Sink-Erator as regional sales manager. He succeeds Ed McCoy who retired after 19 years with the company.

Kevin S. Beckett has been named president and chief executive officer of R. W. Beckett Corp. He previously served as president and chief operating officer. His father, John D. Beckett, who has completed 40 years with the company, will remain as chairman.

Weldbend Corp. has announced the retirement of Byron Leibfried, long time director of sales. Leibfried was employed by the company for approximately 37 years. Succeeding him as director of sales will be Mary Flisk, his long-time assistant. She will be assisted by Wade Baker, who has been named assistant director of sales.

Armstrong pumps has appointed David Elliot as managing director --global operations. He was most recently general manager at Stackpole Ltd., a multi-national automotive parts manufacturer. AlekSandra Wiltshire has been named manager - knowledge projects. She has been involved in corporate communications for more than a decade. The company has named Robert W. Clements as manager --Ontario sales. He comes to the company from Trane. Joseph Tibando has been appointed field services supervisor --warranty administration group by the company. He comes to Armstrong from Danfoss, where he performed a variety of application related duties. Gordon Reel has been named sales manager - western region, wholesale parts division. He brings over 25 years of experience to the job. Steve Cuthbertson has been named manager --distribution parts development. He served most recently as director of sales and service, Canada, for Lennox International. Richard Halvorsen has been appointed sales manager --wholesale/parts division for the company. He has more than 26 years of industry experience, most recently as national sales manager for Fluidyne Industries. Joanne Schneider has been appointed parts technologist.

A.O. Smith Water Products has named James D. Grasha to the newly created position of vice president and general manager of the firm's water systems business. Kevin J. Wheeler has been named vice presidentinternational, responsible for the company's business in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Mexico. David R. Warren has been promoted to managing director of the company's plant in Veldhoven, the Netherlands. Joan Duvall has been named director of strategic marketing. She joins the company from United Technologies-Carrier, where she has held marketing and manufacturing positions.

Fluidmaster has appointed William Anti director of marketing. Anti, a 30-year veteran of the plumbing industry, joins the company after serving as vice president, marketing for Water Pik since 2000.
