Minneapolis, Minn - The Nexstar Legacy Foundation announced it is accepting applications for the John MacGregor Scholarship.

This memorial scholarship fund was founded in honor of John MacGregor, MacGregor Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning in Michigan. The fund currently has $10,000 available for 2015, which will be awarded to as many as 10 qualified individuals interested in entering, or currently working as technicians in the plumbing, heating & cooling, and/or electrical (PHCE) service industry. Applications will be accepted until March 15, 2015.

Individuals interested in applying for this scholarship should fill out the Technicians in PHCE application that can be accessed by visiting the foundation’s website.

John MacGregor was a union-trained Master Plumber from Detroit who moved to rural northern Michigan and started a plumbing company in 1962, so he could enjoy the beauty and sports the area had to offer. He went on to build a 3.5 million+ company performing plumbing and HVAC construction and services, which is now celebrating its 53rd year in operation.

John was a huge proponent of young adults entering the trades, as well as a supporter of kids with learning disabilities like dyslexia who needed a voice to receive proper training. John passed away in 2009, still owning and working in his business at the age of 74, which he considered to be his “hobby”.

For the past four years the scholarship has been funded by Julie MacGregor Wieman, John’s daughter, who took over ownership of the business in 2009. If you are interested in contributing to this memorial fund, please visit this website. All donations are tax deductible.

The Nexstar Legacy Foundation is dedicated to attracting talented individuals to the heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical industries, by inspiring these people to discover the prestige, earning power and stability of careers in these fields.
