ANNAPOLIS, Md. (August 8, 2012) – The United Association (UA) will hold its 59th Annual Instructor Training Program at Washtenaw Community College, Ann Arbor, Mich., August 11-17. A highlight of the week is the union’s Industry Day on Wednesday, August 15. Special guests and contractors will attend to learn the latest in available training and technology for plumbers and pipe fitters that provide a wide array of services to industrial, commercial and residential building projects.
“This week is dedicated to training the trainers who take the latest technology and best practices back to more than 300 local unions across North America,” said United Association Director of Training Chris Haslinger. “Industry Day is a great opportunity for the industry to see first-hand how we are supporting the green building movement. This caliber of training is unmatched anywhere else within our industry or school systems.” More than 2,000 union members will attend the event and participate in more than 85 college-level courses through Washtenaw Community College.
Highlights of Industry Day will include a special affiliation signing agreement with the Plumbing Employees Trade Union in Australia, as well as a roster of special guest speakers. Beginning at 9 a.m. in Towsley Auditorium, Morris Lawrence Building, union members and guests will hear from:

The United Association and its signatory contractors invest more than $200 million annually in training of UA members. More than 35,000 apprentices are presently receiving college-level training and on-the-job experience. The union also offers journeyworkers more than 2,000 hours of on-the-job training, as well as 244 hours of trade and classroom learning over a five-year period. Plumbers and pipe fitters work with energy, air and water systems. Presently in high demand by heavy industry, the United Association offers certifications in welding, rigging, instrumentation installation and calibration: highly valued in the power generation, oil and chemical processing, and wastewater treatment industries.
