DEERFIELD BEACH, FLA. — Zager Plumbing & Solar Inc. is kicking off 2012 with the installation of a 10kW grid-tied photovoltaic system at its office headquarters here.

With the recent drop in prices for solar panels coupled with solar rebates from utility FPL, now is a better time than ever to install solar on a home or business in the south Florida area. Zager Plumbing & Solar Inc. was able to secure a $20,000 rebate through FPL’s Business Photovoltaic Pilot Project, which will help to make the installation extremely cost-effective, along with the 30% federal tax credit currently being offered.

The company sees this as an excellent opportunity to lead by example.

“There are a lot of solar installers throughout Florida, however, hardly any have put solar on their office buildings or warehouses,” said Dale Zager, president of Zager Plumbing & Solar.” The company hopes that the installation will serve as a demonstration piece for the surrounding community and create positive support for solar energy. With all the negative publicity the solar industry has received recently regarding the Solyndra scandal, it is easy to overlook the continued benefits of installing a solar energy system.”

The installation will consist of 46 solar panels mounted to the roof and will be designed to withstand winds of 145-mph. The project will also utilize a performance monitoring system that will show the current and cumulative energy production along with carbon and environmental offsets. This data will also be available on the company’s website at www.zagerplumbingandsolar.com.

Utility customers are able to sell back excess electricity generated by their solar energy systems to the power companies through net metering. Implementing solar projects are also helping companies to promote environmental sustainability initiatives. The new solar energy system at Zager Plumbing & Solar will offset more than 20,000-lbs. of carbon emissions every year once it is installed.

As the next round of FPL solar rebates is set to become available in 2012, Zager Plumbing & Solar is confident that more businesses and homeowners will decide to pursue solar projects now that the economic feasibility of these projects makes sense. This was evident in the fact that in the last two rounds of rebates the money was allocated almost immediately after being released.
