CHICAGO -- With increasing emphasis being placed on healthy lifestyles, many customers may be asking: how healthy is our home? According to the EPA, most of us spend more than 90% of our lives indoors, so it is worth thinking more closely about air quality and energy efficiency, especially inside the home during the winter months.

With this in mind, contractor A.W.E., formerly The Air Conditioning & Heating Co., created the “Healthy Home Month” initiative in October 2011. “Healthy Home Month” encourages homeowners to follow simple steps to ensure thoughtful DIY maintenance steps that can save money, improve indoor air quality, and extend the lives of necessary home functions of air, water and energy.

In celebration of the 2nd Annual “Healthy Home Month,” more than 50 DuPage County residents attended a complimentary breakfast and program on October 11 with keynote speaker, Kay McKeen, executive director of SCARCE (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education). McKeen shared simple tips to improve indoor air quality and the indoor home environment. The event took place at the Holiday Inn Carol Stream.
