WESTLAKE, OHIO - The American National Standard Institute (ANSI) has recognized the American Society of Sanitary Engineering's fifth professional qualifications standard, the ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 10000-2010, Professional Qualifications Standard for Green Plumbing Systems Installers, as an American National Standard. The Series 10000 was approved by ASSE's Board of Directors in December of 2010.
With the rapid emergence of green building and sustainable technologies, ASSE and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), who served as co-secretariats for the standard, recognized the need to establish a level of competency necessary for the installation and inspection of sustainable plumbing, mechanical systems and products. The ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 10000 institutes a minimum level of practical experience and requires the demonstration of knowledge of the requirements referenced in the 2010 IAPMO Green Plumbing and Mechanical Code Supplement in order for an individual to meet the required level of competency.
The ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 10000 now joins the company of ASSE's four other ANSI Approved professional qualifications standards: ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 5000, Cross-Connection Control Professional Qualifications Standard; ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 6000, Professional Qualifications Standard for Medical Gas Systems Personnel; ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 7000, Professional Qualifications Standard for Plumbing-Based Residential Fire Protection Systems Installers and Inspectors; and ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 8000, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Replenishment Systems Professional Qualifications Standard.
