Assistant Secretary Kerri‐Ann Jones, one of the highest‐ranking officials in the U.S. State Department, will deliver the keynote address at the Third International Emerging Technology Symposium. Co‐convened by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and the World Plumbing Council, the symposium of highly interactive presentations and engaging panel discussions will be held May 1‐2 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Bethesda, Md.
As the Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, Jones oversees the department’s new international water partnership addressing water issues and shortages. She was nominated by President Obama and works closely and on a regular basis with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the White House. “We couldn’t be more excited about having such a highly respected government official as Dr. Jones at our symposium, especially in the nation’s capital,” said IAPMO CEO GP Russ Chaney, who is also the chair of the World Plumbing Council. “Her decades of experience in the areas of science, technology, health and the environment will greatly benefit all of our attendees.”
Jones’ previous U.S. government experience includes serving as director of the National Science Foundation’s Office of International Science and Engineering; associate director for National Security and International Affairs at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy; and in management and technical positions with the U.S. Agency for International Development and the National Institutes of Health.
The two‐day symposium will allow participants to view presentations and engage in lively discussions on how the water utility, manufacturing, engineering and trade industries have devised solutions to challenges in the water efficiency, HVAC, plumbing and mechanical industries.
