ONTARIO, CALIF. -- IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) is pleased to announce that Minnesota-‐based Uponor North America has been granted UES Evaluation Report ER-‐0253 to reference the 2012 and 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), 2012 and 2009 Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC), the 2010 California Plumbing Code (CPC), the 2012 and 2009 International Building Code (IBC), the 2012 and 2009 International Residential Code (IRC), the 2012 and 2009 International Plumbing Code (IPC) and 2012 and 2009 International Mechanical Code (IMC).

ER-0253 is the result of extensive engineering review and compliles the supporting documentation showing that Uponor's AquaPEX and hePEX cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing and fittings satisfy code requirements. This allows for the specification of AquaPEX and hePEX tubing by architects, contractors, specifiers and designers, and approval of these installations by code officicials. It also provides code officials with a consise summary of the product's attributes and documentation of code compliance.

Products recognized by the UES in this manner have successfully undergone evaluation based on applicable requirements within the Uniform family of codes and the International family of codes, as well as codes published by other entities. UES staff thoroughly examined Uponor's AquaPEX and hePEX product information, test reports, calculations, quality control methods and other factors to ensure the product was code compliant.

"Uponor North America is extremely pleased with ER-0253 on our AquaPEX and hePEX," said Mary Kimlinger, Codes and Standards manager, U.S. "We are excited about this report and IAPMO's new Evaluation Service Program. Uniform ES provides us the opportunity to consolidate our supporting data into one report. This simplifies our construction documentation and sales submittals."

The UES program is built upon IAPMO's more than 70 years of experience in evaluating products for code compliance. Accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the program operates under ISO/IEC Guide 65, "General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certificiation Systems."

"Uponor North America can now reference its ER-0253 for AquaPEX and hePEX to ensure that code officials quickly have the information required for their decision on approval," said UES Director Richard Beck, PE, CBO, MCP. "Our program also stands out because of stellar customer service and the utilization of in-house staff along with the technical expertise of professional engineering firms, who are leaders in each area of recognition."

IAPMO's UES offers a full range of recognition opportunities, including for the applicable national model codes as well as Florida, California and various other states. The UES program lowers the cost and increases the value to code officials by combining all of these recognitions into one concise report prepared by an internationally recognized product certification body.
