IAPMO Releases 2026 WE•Stand Technical Committee Monograph Ahead of Code Meetings

ONTARIO, CA — IAPMO has released the 2026 Water Efficiency and Sanitation Standard (WE•Stand) technical committee meeting monograph, now available for download ahead of upcoming ANSI-accredited consensus development meetings.
The technical committee meetings are scheduled for May 13–14 in Ontario, California, and will include both in-person and virtual participation options.
Individuals planning to actively participate in the WE•Stand development process are encouraged to download the monograph in advance at the following link:

Monograph Includes Full Set of Submitted Change Proposals
The 2026 WE•Stand technical committee meeting monograph includes all change proposals submitted as part of the ANSI-accredited consensus code development process for the standard.
Proposed Updates Span Broad Water Efficiency Applications
Topics under consideration for the 2026 WE•Stand update include a wide range of water efficiency and sanitation areas, such as:
- Remote inspections of plumbing systems
- Use of treated blackwater, gray water and stormwater, including irrigation limitations for edible crops
- Maximum flush volumes for water closets
- Flow rate limits for faucets, showerheads and wash fountains
- Commercial food service water use, including ice makers, steam cookers and dipper wells
- Laboratory water use, including reverse osmosis recovery rates, washers and waste systems
- Water treatment maintenance controls
- Leak detection and control systems
- Data center water use effectiveness (WUE)
- Cross-connection testing and inspection for alternate water systems
- Identification and signage for potable and nonpotable water systems
- Backflow protection for alternate water source connections
- Trench separation requirements for potable and nonpotable piping
- Hot water recirculation systems in residential buildings
- Water softener efficiency and regeneration usage
- Professional qualification standards for designers and installers
Industry Participation Encouraged in Consensus Process
IAPMO encourages participation from installers, inspectors, engineers, manufacturers and other stakeholders in the code development process.
