Celebrate World Water Day on Sunday March 22

Sustainability is on everyone’s mind lately. With a drought and water shortage in California, clean water is a subject that demands attention.

With World Water Day taking place on Sunday, March 22, Dow Water & Process Solutions has released a new infographic about how their technology can help lower costs, promote energy savings and reduce the amount of water wasted.

“Water infrastructure is starting to gain more attention, being noted as one of the most important development challenges of the 21st century,” remarks Snehal Desai, global business director of Dow Water & Process Solutions. “With World Water Day on the horizon, it is time to reflect on the importance of public and private sector collaboration to maximize clean, safe and reliable water utilities to ensure the sustainability of our cities during a time of rapid urbanization.”

Here are some of the key facts in the infographic:

  • It takes 16 gallons of water to power a 60-watt light bulb for 12 hours.
  • 1 billion people across the world do not have access to drinkable water.
  • When advanced technology is used, demand on water, energy and materials can be reduced by 15 percent.
  • Advanced reverse osmosis technology can help food and beverage companies produce as much as 40 percent better water purification while using 30 percent less energy.
  • In-home reverse-osmosis systems can take 99 percent of contaminants and impurities out of water.
  • It takes an average of 3,000 liters of water to produce food for one person each day, on average.
