DALLAS— Grand Hall USA, the maker of the Eternal hybrid water heater, donated new energy-efficient water heaters to the Cordero House, Tigard, Ore., a facility that serves as a safe haven for abused boys. Almost a century old, the 5,000-sq.ft. home, built in 1915, was in dire need of repair and renovation.
Grand Hall’s donation of two GU195M water heaters is valued at more than $5,600 and is part of the Home Builders Foundation project that raised funds to cover the Cordero House renovation estimated at $770,000.
“Hot water was required for morning showers for 12 youth plus specialized sanitizer for dishes and laundry — and there was, quite simply, never enough,” explained Dennis Morrow, executive director of Janus Youth Programs Inc., providing care for Cordero House residents. “The boys were limited to five minute showers once a day with a maximum of two youth showering at one time and even with these limits, the showers had to be split between morning and evening and the last youth always ran out of hot water before they were finished.”
The project completion was celebrated July 13 with house tours and refreshments. Now, for the first time in Cordero House’s history, the home will have a constant supply of hot water that will even allow multiple appliances to run simultaneously without sacrificing water pressure and comfort.
The Eternal hybrid water heater features include:

“Our needs were very basic — these young men are living in this program and house for up to two years,” said Morrow. “It is their home. Our need was to have it be a comfortable and supportive environment. Waiting 1.5 hours to take a cold shower did not meet this standard. We are now proud to say that with the help of the Home Builders Association and through the contributions of businesses like Eternal Hybrid Water Heater, we have been able to turn a house into a home.
