Knoxville, Tenn.— Daniel R. Burnette, 60, an active leader of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors - National Association, PHCC Educational Foundation and a member of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America died Feb. 21 in Knoxville after a three-year battle with bladder cancer.
“We have truly lost one of PHCC’s great leaders,” said PHCC President Mike Kastner. “Dan was steadfast in his loyalty to the association and love for the industry, and was a continual contributor of ideas and action. He will sorely be missed.”
PHCC Educational Foundation Chairman Larry Howe added, “He fought the disease in the same manner he did everything in life — with unrelenting determination and positive resolve.”
Burnette, chairman of Knoxville-based Interstate Mechanical Contractors, held numerous leadership roles within PHCC and was instrumental in the development and refinement of PHCC’s Labor Calculator 2000. Most recently, at the 2000 PHCC annual convention in Chicago, he received the PHCC Educational Foundation’s 2000 Industry Achievement Award, which recognizes visionary leadership and extraordinary commitment to the plumbing-heating-cooling industry.
Burnette was president of the Tennessee PHCC in 1976, secretary of the PHCC-NA in 1982-83, president of PHCC-NA in 1990-91 and was chairman of the PHCC Educational Foundation in 1995-96.
He was also an active member of the PHCC Legislative Advisory Council and continually informed elected officials in Washington on the effects of federal legislation on plumbing-heating-cooling contractors. In addition, Burnette served as the PHCC representative on the board of directors for Associated Specialty Contractors and was chairman for ASC from 1993-95.
Burnette and his wife, Judy, also were strong and enthusiastic supporters of mcaa.
