WESTLAKE, OHIO — The American Society of Sanitary Engineering's Series 7000-2008, a professional qualifications standard for plumbing-based residential fire protection systems installers and inspectors, has been approved by the ANSI. The recent approval makes this the only plumbing-based residential fire protection systems installers and inspectors professional qualifications standard to be approved by ANSI.

The ASSE Series 7000-2008 consists of two standards: the 7010 and 7020 standard. The 7010 standard applies to individuals who provide layouts, details, calculations and install plumbing-based residential fire protection systems for one- and two-family dwellings. The 7020 standard applies to individuals who inspect plumbing-based residential fire protection systems for one and two-family dwellings. Neither of these standards applies to the installation of stand-alone fire protection systems.

With the proliferation of residential fire suppression systems being installed in compliance with the NFPA Standard 13D, ASSE was requested to develop a standard series for plumbing-based residential fire protection systems installers and inspectors as part of their program. The ASSE Series 7000-2008 contains the uniform minimum requirements for qualified installers and inspectors of plumbing based residential fire suppression systems.
