Brian A. Rener, PE, has been named vice president and chief electrical engineer of the mechanical/electrical/ plumbing engineering unit of A. Epstein and Sons International, Chicago. Rener brings more than 15 years experience to the post.
Donald Romano, president of Heritage Mandell Mechanical Services in Deer Park, N.Y., was recognized with the Distinguished Legislative Service Award at the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractor's National Association's recent annual legislative dinner. Mandell Mechanical is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group.
Illingworth Corp., a leading mechanical services contractor in the Milwaukee, Wisc. Region, has named Dan Pfeifer as its new president. Former president John Illingworth will remain and assume the role of chief executive officer. Pfeifer started his career with the company in 1977 as a sheet metal apprentice, and was most recently named vice president of HVAC operations in 2002. Illingworth is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group.
Nine members of the Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors Association of Northern Illinois have won its "Commitment to a Safe Workplace" Award for 2003. The award recognizes improvements in safety made by the contractors over the last three years in at least four out of six categories, such as lost workdays and workers' compensation resolutions. Two three-time winners are: Abbot Industries, Bensenville, and Roughneck Concrete Drilling and Sawing, Morton Grove. Two contractors have won the award the last two years: Chicago Backflow, Alsip, and Mechanical Inc., Freeport. Other winners for 2003 are: AMS Mechanical services, Burr Ridge; Franks Mechanical Contractors, Elk Grove Village; J.L. Viega North America, a manufacturer of systems for radiant floor heating, snow and ice melting and plumbing, has appointed David Garlow to vice president of sales. He was formerly Northeast regional manager for the company.

Elkay Manufacturing announced that John E. Heilstedt, executive vice president/sales and marketing, Elkay division, has retired from the company. Heilstedt joined the company in 1992 as vice president/sales and marketing, Elkay division. Six new appointments have been announced to develop the company's growth strategies: Mark Lawson has been promoted to vice president and general manager of sink products and accessories. Jack Krecek has been promoted to vice president and general manager of water cooler products. Tom Samanic has been promoted to general manager of CIS products and will oversee the company's Custom, Institution and Scullery line. Jerry G. Ryder, In-Sink-Erator president, recently received the HAIL Award from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. The award recognizes individuals for service and leadership to the home appliance industry. Ryder has served two terms as treasurer for AHAM. Dan King recently joined In-Sink-Erator as regional sales manager. He succeeds Ed McCoy who retired after 19 years with the company.

He has more than 26 years of industry experience, most recently as national sales manager for Fluidyne Industries. Joanne Schneider has been appointed parts technologist.
