The International Association of Plumbing & Mechanical Officials' Green Technical Committee met in Rosemont, Ill., last month, to finalize the Green Plumbing and Mechanical Code Supplement. The Supplement will be submitted for addition into the UPC and UMC in its entirety to the respective appendices, and some sections of the Green Supplement will be proposed to be adopted directly into the UPC and UMC. The next GTC meeting is scheduled for April 14-15, 2010, Rosemont, Ill.

Rheem Manufacturing recently announced that it has joined the Green Mechanical Council. The announcement follows the company's recent decision to sponsor Green Mechanical Contractor magazine's Green Mechanical Awards, co-sponsored by GreenMech, which “recognize mechanical/plumbing contractors and design/build firms that are creating the most fuel- and cost-efficient systems in residential and commercial applications.”

Franchise Times magazine recognized Mr. Rooter Corp. in its Top 200 ranking for 2009. This annual ranking lists the top 200 franchises based on worldwide sales. Mr. Rooter Plumbing sits in slot No. 184 with $280 million in worldwide sales for 2008. An all-franchised plumbing company, Mr. Rooter wrapped up 2008 with 241 U.S. franchises and 119 international locations.

The Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. honored the top merit contractors and construction projects in the Philadelphia region at its 19th Annual Merit Construction Awards of Excellence event, this November. Top honors went to Allan A. Myers in the Best General Contractor Over $10 million category. Other individual company honors included Warfel Construction Co. for the Best General Contractor Under $10 million; The Tri-M Group LLC for Best Specialty Contractor Over $10 million; and Zebby Sulecki Inc. for Best Specialty Contractor Under $10 million.
