Andy J. Egan Co., a Michigan-based mechanical contractor and custom fabricator, is now American Petroleum Institute and European Pressure Equipment Directive certified. API certification enables Egan to weld gas pipelines. With PED certification, the company can fabricate pressure-rated piping and components for European markets.

The Mechanical Service Contractors of America announced that W.E. Bowers Inc., Beltsville, Md., has been awarded the association's Shooting Star award. The award is given to MSCA STAR contractors who have successfully used the standards-based qualification to promote business success.

Clockwork Home Services announced franchise growth for the first quarter of 2009 within its portfolio of nationally branded home services companies. During the period from January through March, Clockwork added 21 new plumbing, air conditioning and heating, and electrical franchises. Including these additions, the company's franchises now serve 584 territories.

Basset Mechanical has been named Family Business of the Year in the large business category. The award was sponsored by Smith & Gesteland, a Madison, Wis.-based CPA firm. Basset, located in Kaukauna, Wis., was one of six businesses across the state to be recognized. The company employs 340 people.
