America First Expo to Be Held at Fort Totten, Nov. 18

Local plumbing supply hosts event honoring domestic manufacturing.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- In 1965, manufacturing accounted for 53% of the domestic economy; by 2004 it was down to 9%. Between February 2001 and February 2009, the United States lost one third of the remaining manufacturing jobs. In addition, manufacturing employment has declined by 27,000 jobs over the past month alone. The gravity of these statements has not escaped Solco Plumbing Supply, a New York City-based plumbing supply house, who is taking action to spread awareness about the decline of domestic manufacturing.

On Thursday, November 18, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m., Solco will host the first ever "America First" expo, bringing their customers together with over 40 plumbing and heating manufacturers from around the country, including Kohler, Delta, Charlotte Pipe, GE and many others. These companies represent what remains of domestic manufacturing in the plumbing supply industry. They have a story to tell, and Solco wants to help them tell it.

The event will be held at Fort Totten in Bayside, Queens. Fort Totten is a former U.S. Army installation, and currently maintains a U.S. Army Reserve presence. Fort Totten is also home to an Officer's Club, better known as the Fort Totten Castle, which is headquarters for the Bayside Historical Society. It is in this castle at patriotic Fort Totten that Solco will hold its America First expo, where its customers will have an opportunity to get to know America's manufacturers and what they stand for.

In addition to bringing customers and vendors together, Solco will be celebrating American manufacturing by giving away several raffle prizes, all of which are made in America. The grand prize in the drawing is a lease on a Chevrolet Traverse, an American car any of Solco's customers would love to win. The event will be catered with American foods, such as hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, and apple pie, to bring the spirit of the event one step further.

Solco Plumbing Supply is a 50-year-old plumbing supply house with locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. They have been involved in some of the city's premiere jobs. This is their first American expo.
