    • Copper may sell for a record high of $4,000 per ton sometime this year,

      driven by high demand, low stocks and persistent buying by commodities funds,

      Reuters news service reported from the London Metal Exchange. Copper has soared

      from $1,336 in 2001 to the present level due primarily to high demand from

      China.

    • The Associated General Contractors of America has applauded legislation

      introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that includes measured protections

      to contractors who respond to declared federal, state, and local emergencies

      or disasters. The Good Samaritan legislation is designed to provide contractors,

      such as those responding to Hurricane Katrina, with qualified immunity from

      liability when providing services in volunteer situations that arise from

      a disaster or emergency

    • COSA, the Carbon Monoxide Safety Association, has unveiled a new

      Website www.cosafety.org. The site includes: a list of training dates

      for Combustion Analysis and Equipment Performance; equipment calibration dates;

      and carbon monoxide in the news. The mission of COSA is to promote CO safety

      awareness and to develop and implement CO training materials and programs.


    • ISH North America has announced that the International Association

      of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials intends to join the ISH NA show partnership.

      In becoming the newest partner, IAPMO joins Messe Frankfurt, the American

      Supply Association, Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating, Plumbing-Heating-Cooling

      Contractors - National Association and Radiant Panel Association.

      Starting in 2006, IAPMO will hold its annual convention in conjunction with

      ISH NA, which will take place Sept. 28-30 in Chicago.

    • RHP Mechanical Systems, an HVAC and plumbing contractor based in

      Reno, Nev., was the firstplace winner in the 2005 SMACNA Safety Statistics

      Evaluation and Awards Program for having the best safety and health record

      within the more than 500,000 man-hour category. The SMACNA Safety Excellence

      Award Program is conducted annually to enable the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning

      Contractors' National Association to track the safety history of the industry

      and recognize members for outstanding safety performance in various man-hour

      categories.
