Norwalk, Conn. — Employees of EMCOR Group Inc.'s headquarters here devoted their annual summer outing in mid-June to benefiting the Miss Laura M. Raymond Homes, a 50-unit housing community for the elderly and disabled, which provides housing for 60 elderly and disabled residents.
EMCOR's employees undertook the initiative with a full day of activities, including landscaping, socialization and an old fashioned cookout for the residents of MLRH. The non-profit corporation is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Raymond was a life-long resident of Norwalk who dedicated her home and property to the care of the elderly and disabled.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to help those in our community,” said Frank MacInnis, chairman and CEO of EMCOR, who participated in the day's events. “As a company that has built its reputation on being actively engaged on behalf of our clients, we are delighted to give back to a community that has always been exceedingly supportive of EMCOR.”
Most of the residents of MLRH worked alongside the company's employees and participated in the day's activities.
As part of the events, EMCOR held a special ceremony at MLRH and planted a tree in its honor. The company also assisted MLRH with a collection for an outing bus so that the residents will have the ability to attend a future community event of its choosing.
MLRH provides project-based rental assistance and funds for supportive services. The Norwalk Redevelopment Agency has recently awarded funds through a Community Development Block Grant for capital improvements.
