SPECIAL TO CONTRACTOR
NORWALK, CONN. — EMCOR Group, the country's largest mechanical contractor, announced Nov. 8 that it has acquired Fluidics, a privately held mechanical services company. EMCOR said that the strategic acquisition would strengthen its service offerings, build on the company's Mid-Atlantic presence and create a platform for additional growth in facilities services. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
EMCOR was ranked No. 1 in CONTRACTOR's 2005 Book of Giants with mechanical revenues of nearly $1.85 billion (May, pg. 28).
Based in Philadelphia, Fluidics provides mechanical services to businesses in Philadelphia, southern New Jersey and Delaware. The company employs about 380 technical and service personnel using more than 85 service vehicles.
Founded in 1968, Fluidics' services include 24-hour, 365-day mobile response and preventive maintenance, onsite building operations and maintenance services as well as HVAC and plumbing retrofit projects.
Fluidics had been a division of PSEG Energy Technologies until it was bought back from the utility by current management two years ago. Revenues for 2005 are expected to be in the $51 million range.
"As the leading mechanical service provider in the greater Philadelphia area, Fluidics' offerings will play a key role in the continued growth of our overall facilities services operation," said Frank T. MacInnis, chairman and chief executive officer of EMCOR. " Fluidics' strength in the commercial, health-care, pharmaceutical and university markets and its experienced management team, which champions a customer relationship culture that is on a par with EMCOR's, will enhance our capabilities on both a regional and national scale.
"One of EMCOR's main strengths is our ability to provide full 'life-cycle' coverage to facility systems, from design and installation to operation, maintenance and servicing of those systems over extended periods of time. As a microcosm of this strategy, Fluidics has the ability to provide mobile and onsite services as well as small retrofit construction projects directly to the end user of a facility. In this manner they provide their customer with a customized value solution designed specifically for the customer's unique requirements."
EMCOR asserts that it is the only mechanical/electrical firm that can offer full end-to-end services for the entire lifecycle of a facility. EMCOR provides construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services that are customized for each customer, the company said. Similarly, Fluidics provides a range of customized mobile and onsite services and retrofit construction work to end-users.
"We are extremely excited to join forces with EMCOR, a true industry leader," said Edward R. Quinn, chief executive officer of Fluidics. "This is a tremendous opportunity and the perfect fit for Fluidics. We look forward to our future prospects."
"From a geographic perspective, Fluidics' strong presence in the greater Philadelphia and southern New Jersey/Delaware regions will complete our East Coast footprint," said Tony Guzzi, EMCOR's president and chief operating officer.
EMCOR's East Coast operation includes Labov Mechanical, Pleasantville, N. J.; Trimech, Pompton Plains, N.J.; F&G Mechanical Corp., Secaucus, N.J.; Meadowlands Fire Protection Corp., Secaucus, N.J.; North Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Waldwick, N.J.; Poole & Kent, Baltimore; Combustioneer, Rockville, Md.; and Duffy Mechanical Corp., Upper Marlboro, Md.
"Additionally, we see substantial opportunities to extend the scope of Fluidics' growth opportunities by linking them to our branding programs and EMCOR's national facilities services platform," Guzzi said. "The acquisition of Fluidics strengthens our national service capability, increases our presence in an attractive geographic market and becomes part of a corridor of service excellence that extends from Maine to Florida."
With $4.7 billion in annual revenues, EMCOR has 140 locations worldwide and 26,000 employees.
