LENEXA, KS — Global pump manufacturer Grundfos officially broke ground on a new 40,000-square-foot office building in Lenexa, Kansas during an April 12 ceremony. Expected to be completed during the fall of 2017, the new LEED-certified design facility will replace Grundfos’ current Kansas City offices located 8 miles southwest in Olathe. The new offices will continue to house the company’s customer service, technical training, marketing, business development and other support functions for the Americas region and USA Sales.
Attending the ceremony were several company executives and local dignitaries, including Grundfos Group Executive Vice President Poul Due Jensen, Lenexa Mayor Hon. Michael Boehm and members of the Lenexa City Council.
A global leader in developing high-tech water pumps and systems, the $3.85 billion (USD) Denmark-based company employs 1,300 people in the United States and nearly 18,000 globally with 80 companies in more than 55 countries.
Since 2001, Grundfos USA Sales’ headquarters has been located in Olathe, with the Lenexa site being purchased in 2006 in anticipation of a long-term relationship with the community. The company maintains North American operations, sales and service facilities in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Fresno, California, Brookshire, Texas, Indianapolis, and Aurora, Illinois.
“Throughout its history, Grundfos has been proud to become ingrained in the communities we call home. We are excited to move forward in our journey by putting down roots in Lenexa,” says Terry Teach, Executive VP of Sales for Domestic Buildings for Grundfos. “As Grundfos continues to grow within the industry, Lenexa offers us the space and resources we need to thrive, and we look forward to seeing our new home take shape.”
Among Grundfos’ priorities is sustainability. In addition to manufacturing energy- and water-efficient pumping solutions, the company is committed to reducing its own impact on the environment.
For its part, the new Lenexa facility is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold for Commercial Building Design and Construction, the recognized system for certifying newly constructed high-performance green spaces.
During the ceremony, Group Executive Vice President Jensen shared memories of his years at the Grundfos Olathe office, noting how the community shaped his family by, among other things, being where his daughter started school. Afterward, he spoke to the role the U.S. plays in Grundfos. “We are doing better than ever,” he said.
The company’s Americas Sales region saw a 12 percent boost in sales in 2015 relative to 2014. As a whole, Grundfos earned a 2015 profit of USD 3.6 billion, 5 percent up on 2014 figures. “What we have achieved is truly outstanding and the U.S. is highly appreciated,” emphasizes Jensen.
“I’m looking forward to having this new Grundfos facility be a part of our community for years to come,” said Lenexa Mayor Boehm.
