ST. PAUL, MN. – Nexstar Network is pleased to announce the addition of Phil Smitherman to the Nexstar Board of Directors. Smitherman is the owner of Aux Mechanical and Banks Quarles PHCE, based out of Bessemer and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Smitherman said that after being a member for over 15 years, he hopes to use his time as a director to better understand the challenges Nexstar staff members face in researching the industry, in order to improve developments for members.

“At the same time, as a contractor within Nexstar for so many years, I have been blessed to see the changes occur with both entities,” Smitherman said. “I also feel as though it is time to give back to the industry and to Nexstar for the many years they have given me.”

Smitherman has been a Nexstar member for 15 years, and has successfully transitioned his business to a multi-location, multi-trade service business. Aux Mechanical has been awarded the Nexstar Coaches Award for Employee Engagement two years in a row, in 2014 and 2015.

“He is passionate about his business, this industry and Nexstar,” said Jack Tester, Nexstar president and CEO. “He will bring this passion, wisdom and vision to our board.”

Smitherman has spent about 30 years in the industry, which he said is “like a hobby most of the time.”

“Our industry is so self-satisfying when your customers trust you in their homes and businesses,” Smitherman said. “I think the fact that customers trust us with the most expensive and most personal asset they have is amazing. I absolutely love it.”

At the election during Nexstar’s annual meeting in October, the board recognized now-former board member Gregg D’Atille for his service. D’Atille served six years on the Nexstar Board of Directors.
