Prestigious Authorization Demonstrates Commitment to High-Quality Lifelong Learning

DALLAS - The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) has again awarded the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) the prestigious Authorized Provider status. IACET Authorized Providers are the only organizations approved to offer IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The recognition period extends for five years, and includes all programs offered or created during that time.

AFSA has been an authorized provider of IACET CEUs for more than a decade. And, AFSA is pleased to announce that after a December 2010 audit of its programs, AFSA has been authorized to continue providing IACET continuing education units.

"AFSA is proud of our education programs which train hundreds of fire sprinkler contractors, layout technicians, fitters, as well as Authorities Having Jurisdiction each year in important fire sprinkler system layout, installation, plan review and inspection skills so that our members and their AHJs stay on the cutting edge," stated Steve Muncy, AFSA President."Our partnership with IACET is a demonstration of our commitment to lifelong learning and high standards for all of our programs."

With this continued authorization, AFSA is among the nearly 650 organizations around the globe that have had their programs vetted by third-party experts in continuing education to ensure the highest possible standards are met. In order to achieve Authorized Provider status, AFSA completed a rigorous application process, including a review by an IACET site visitor, and successfully demonstrated adherence to the ANSI/IACET 1-2007 Standard addressing the design, development, administration, and evaluation of its programs.

AFSA has pledged its continued compliance with the Standard, and is authorized to use the IACET name and Authorized Provider logo on promotional course material. In addition, AFSA is linked to the IACET Web site and is recognized as offering the highest quality continuing education and training programs. AFSA was organized in 1981 to provide the open shop fire sprinkler contractor with training, consulting, communication, representation and many more services, all of which have expanded over its existence. To assist fire sprinkler contractors in maintaining a quality workforce, AFSA offers training programs that offer CEUs (as recognized by IACET) and Continuing Professional Development credits (as recognized by NICET).

The Applied Sprinkler Technology programs and the Hydraulic Calculation series found online at eCampus ( guides fire sprinkler system layout technicians step-by-step through the calculation process, evaluating water supply needs, selecting design areas, learning basic formulas, and more.

Another popular AFSA training course is the Contren® Learning Series, a correspondence course designed specifically for training apprentices in the fire sprinkler trade. In addition, AFSA offers the following specialized schools: a two-week Beginning Fire Sprinkler System Planning School offering a comprehensive practical approach to preparing fire sprinkler system drawings with heavy emphasis on NFPA 13; and the System Layout School for Residential One- and Two-Family Dwellings covering layout and calculation of stand alone, multipurpose, and flow-through system types of residential fire sprinkler systems. More training is available in many formats (online, live, DVD, correspondence) for just about everyone in your company.
