Plumbing Industry Council Awards Annual Scholarships

The Plumbing Industry Council recently awarded its 2011 Labor and Management Scholarships at its Annual Scholarship Awards Program.

The Plumbing Industry Council recently awarded its 2011 Labor and Management Scholarships at its Annual Scholarship Awards Program. Each year, the Plumbing Industry Council awards two scholarships to high school seniors: One scholarship is awarded to a son or daughter of a plumber member of Plumbers’ & Pipefitters’ Local #562 and one scholarship is awarded to a son or daughter of a contractor member of the Plumbing Industry Council. The scholarships are a one-time $2,000.00 monetary award to be used at a university or college of the recipient’s choice.

In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet very stringent eligibility requirements including a rank in the upper one-half of their graduating class and ACT or SAT scores that also rank in the upper one-half of the nation. A third party selection committee judges the applicants based on:

a. Academic standing of student during four years of high school
b. College entrance exam scores
c. Extracurricular activities and leadership
d. Character reference, an original essay and other pertinent factors

The 2011 PIC Labor scholarship winner this year is Angelina Boulicault. Angelina is the daughter of Daniel and Kathleen Boulicault. Daniel is a plumber at Kent Plumbing Company. Angelina attended Bishop Duborg High School where was captain of the swim team, an Ambassador for Bishop Duborg High School, and a member of National Honor Society where ranked 16th in her class. Angelina has been awarded scholarships for engineering opportunities and a National Scholars Award. She plans on attending the University of Iowa.

The 2011 PIC Management scholarship winner this year is Mallory Mitchell. Mallory is the daughter of Bob and Jenny Mitchell. MB Mitchell Company is a long-time member of the Plumbing Industry Council. Mallory attended Visitation High School where she maintained a 98.18 GPA and was a National Merit Scholar, an Admissions Office Ambassador, Yearbook Editor, National Honor Society, Excellence in Mathematics Team Member, Campus Ministry Club Member, NYSE Team Member (which placed first in the state and second individually), and was also a member of the Spanish Club. Ms. Mitchell will attend Missouri University of Science and Technology where she recently received the Chancellor’s Scholarship Award, which is awarded to the top fifteen freshman entering Missouri Science and Technology.

The Plumbing Industry Council represents 155 union plumbing and mechanical contractors in the eastern half of Missouri and hires the men and women of Plumbers’ & Pipefitters’ Local #562.
