The local franchise was established in August 1963, as Huntsville, the Rocket City, was abuzz with the new Apollo program. (Huntsville is where the U.S. brought all of its German V-2 rocket scientists after World War II, such as Wernher von Braun, to help create the space program.) David L. Tierce, or Pop, as family and friends called him, bought the franchise while the space race was in full throttle with the former Soviet Union. Roto-Rooter Plumbers were in demand as more homes were finding the conveniences of modern plumbing becoming more cost effective.
History has a way of repeating itself, as now, the Rocket City, once again, is the center of the modern space industry and Roto-Rooter Plumbers, still, brings groundbreaking plumbing and drain services to Huntsville. Current Roto-Rooter Plumbers owners, David and Deborra Byrd, have grown the business tremendously while maintaining the quality of standards upheld since its inception.
“I grew up learning, first hand, the love my grandfather had for this business and this town,” smiles Pop’s grandson and Roto-Rooter Plumbers, Nathan Byrd. “I still can picture the glow in his eyes when he would bring a new piece of equipment to the shop.” His father, owner and master plumber, David Byrd added, “We are truly blessed for the opportunity to continue to bring another 50 years of service to our community.”
