Is PR & local news really beneficial to contractors?

July 15, 2016
So how can public relations and local news segments benefit contractors? Recent research shows that if a company is consistently featured on television or in newspaper articles then, in the mind of a consumer, they are in fact more trustworthy Consumers are no longer satisfied with anonymous, transaction-based services

One of the most consistent challenges contractors face is marketing. Where to put the budget, how to track the budget and who should be in charge of spending the budget? Sound familiar? Gone are the days when a successful marketing budget consisted of a phone number, yellow page ad and a vinyl sign on the side of a pickup truck.

These days a key part of success is finding the perfect balance of local presence and brand recognition. Consumers want to do business with someone they trust, preferably in their local area. But they also crave the security of a big brand name backed with warranties and service promises.

So how can public relations and local news segments benefit contractors? Simple. By optimizing opportunities for local coverage, contractors position themselves to be the perfect recipe of neighborhood hero and trustworthy business owner.

Recent research shows that if a company is consistently featured on television or in newspaper articles then, in the mind of a consumer, they are in fact more trustworthy, according to Nielson Insights, http://www.nielsen.com/us/en/insights/reports/2015/global-trust-in-advertising-2015.html. There is immense value in local PR and news sessions, but it’s important to realize that coverage is up for grabs in non-traditional formats.

Here are a few ideas to create a buzz and obtain local press in your service area:

  1. Consider working with a marketing partner or agency.
  2. Consider linking your Facebook page to the fan page of your local DJ or news anchor team.
  3. Identify your company spokesperson.
  4. Sponsor a 5k or local charity event.

Consumers are obtaining their recommendations for residential service from online reviews and social media. Blogs, Facebook, Twitter and online review sites are just a few of the online outlets that can yield high benefits to contractors when leveraged strategically with newsworthy content.

Consumers are no longer satisfied with anonymous, transaction-based services. They expect a real experience from everyone with whom they do business.
