NORTH ANDOVER, MA — Watts announced that nominations are now open for the 2026 Backflow Hero Award, an annual program recognizing individuals who demonstrate excellence in protecting drinking water through backflow prevention.
Now in its third year, the award is part of a broader effort to raise awareness and education around backflow prevention ahead of National Backflow Prevention Day on August 16.
Backflow Prevention Pros Play Critical Role in Water Safety
Backflow preventers are a frontline defense in protecting potable water systems from contamination. For contractors, inspectors and program managers, proper installation, testing and enforcement are essential to keeping systems compliant and communities safe.
Despite that responsibility, the professionals behind these systems often go unrecognized. The Backflow Hero Award is designed to change that by highlighting the individuals who keep water systems protected day in and day out.

- A commitment to education and knowledge sharing
- Dedication to enforcing and advancing industry best practices
Eligible nominees include backflow testers and installers, municipal program administrators, code officials, trainers, distributors and others directly involved in backflow prevention efforts.
Driving Awareness and Industry Participation
The award supports a growing industry push to elevate backflow prevention and increase participation in National Backflow Prevention Day. Watts continues to work with partners across the industry to expand engagement and reinforce the importance of protecting drinking water systems through proper backflow practices.
