The episode, featuring Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, shows Richard Trethewey, a Charlotte Pipe customer, meeting Randy Gitli, local plumbing and heating contractor, for a look at their progress on the cast iron waste piping and the home’s mechanical room, which contains two complete heating systems, one for the ground floor apartment and another for the top three floors.
Cast iron products are twice as quiet as an all-plastic system, eliminating the sound of water from fixtures on floors above flowing down behind the walls. It is a resilient product that has been in use for more than 100 years. It is manufactured from 100% post-consumer recycled scrap iron and steel. At the end of a building’s life, the piping can be recovered and recycled to make new cast iron products.
